Your First Day of School
First of all I want you to relax! Your students will appreciate the fact that you are there, in your right mind and ready to go! Most students coming into the building are nervous their first day, too. Already you have something in common with your students. I always say that the best teacher is a well planned teacher. So have everything that you will need copied, laminated, and layed out. Know your class sizes and make extra copies just in case you have new entries. I have some new activity ideas in lieu of the papers I gave you.
Homeroom Teachers
1. Go over Rules and Regulations of the School
2. Give them their locker numbers and explain usage.
3. Go over the procedures for homeroom. (Example - Come in,
complete the character education sheet or brain teaser)
4. Create your classroom rules. (Refer to the worksheet I gave you.)
5. Go over the grading policy.
If you choose a rubric method, go www.teach-nology.com . This
webiste has a wealth of rubrics that you could create. I use this all the
time.
6. Have the students create collagues about themselves.
-Materials
magazines
scissors
glue
construction paper
writing paper (The students can write an explanation of what their
collague means and this could be a bulletin board)
***You can create one about yourself and share this one with the class.
Mathematics, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies Teachers
Here are some websites to get workseets, brain teasers, graphic organizers, and activities:
1. www.eduplace.com
2. www.teach-nology.com
Teachers, I have faith in you and I know that you can do it. I will be at Northeast Monday thru Wednesday from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM. I will try and provide services to you even while I am back in my classroom. I will remain at Hamilton Elementary/Middle School until Human Resources finds my replacement.
I will keep you posted!
